A light in Lisbon

I stopped in Lisbon on my way to Albania just for the day and didn’t expect much. But it ended up being one of those simple, peaceful moments that stick with you. I had about 8 hours, the weather was warm, the city was calm, and everything just felt easy—no big plans, no stress, just exactly what I needed after a long travel day.

Recommendations:

One of my favorite stops was the Museu de Lisboa, where I wandered through beautiful statues and unexpectedly found a stunning collection of Japanese art and illustration. It felt special, like a hidden pocket of beauty carved out just for rest. And of course, breakfast was everything. I grabbed a meal at a nearby café, and it was so fresh, affordable, and satisfying. Sometimes all you need is good food, kind people, and a warm morning breeze to remember that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. The coffee and croissants were maybe $4 but very filling. I ate at Avenidas Novas, where the workers are friendly and there are quick-to-go options.

Practical Notes from a Female- Solo traveler:

Transportation is a breeze: The city is super accessible. Getting to and from the airport was simple, stress-free, and affordable — I took the metro and it wasn’t a hassle.

Safe & welcoming: I felt completely comfortable walking around solo. The energy in Lisbon is kind and non-intrusive. 10/10 recommend for any woman traveling alone.Budget-friendly: From food to transport to the museum, everything was affordable. It’s the kind of city where you don’t need to spend much to enjoy a full day.

Final Thoughts:

I didn’t expect Lisbon to feel like a reset, but it did. And honestly, I think God met me there in the stillness. There was no pressure to perform or do it all. Just a few slow hours, a bit of beauty, and a moment to breathe.

Sometimes he gives you rest in the in-between places. That’s what Lisbon was for me , a pause that reminded me I don’t have to rush to be present. I wish I could offer more day by day, but eight hours was all I could offer, and it was sufficient for me. It meant so much to me, especially as a beginner, completely. ( Side note: if you have a layover over 6 hours, please wander; if you feel safe)

So if you’re passing through, give Lisbon a day. Especially if you’re a solo traveler looking for beauty, calm, and a reminder to slow down, you’re in good hands here.

With gratitude,

Faith H.
